Erika Wilson

secretary

As a native of Buffalo NY, I moved to Fort Lauderdale 25 years ago.  My time in Fort Lauderdale has more fulfilling than I could have imagined.  I lived and worked on Las Olas Blvd. until I got married and moved to Oakland Park.  Shortly after having children Coral Ridge was calling.  As avid boaters we longed to live on the water and send our children to Bayview Elementary.  Eight years ago, we made the move two miles east to Coral Ridge.  Our children have attended Bayview Elementary, and our family has become actively involved in the Coral Ridge Community.  I served two years as treasurer and one as President of the Bayview Elementary PTA.  I have also held leadership positions at the Coral Ridge Yacht Club and the Las Olas Association.  Community involvement is one of my core values.

In my professional life I am the Vice President of Human Resources and Operations for a Medical Liability company.  I have worked in this role for the past 13 years.

Jose Ruggero

treasurer

Hello, I’m José Ruggero.  Since 2016, I have lived in Coral Ridge and made it my home, where I live with my wife Kimberly and our two dogs.  Before settling here, we spend 10 years in Stamford CT.

I have a rich and diverse global background being born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, raised in Perth, Western Australia, living and working in Melbourne and Sydney and now 19 years in the United States.  My work took me extensively across the globe where I experienced communities of every type.

While focusing on my career, I always made time for community involvement, from serving on the School Parish Board during my children’s primary school years to mentoring under privileged youth in Brooklyn, NY.  These global experiences have honed my skills as a communicator, catalyst, influencer and leader.

2024 marked my first year as a board member, holding the role of treasurer, where I have applied my experience to improve our operating and financial processes.  This experience has solidified my commitment to giving back to the community that has become my home. Fort Lauderdale and Coral Ridge hold a special place in my heart, and I would be honored to continue serving and supporting the association’s efforts to enhance our quality of life.

Board Member

I have lived in Coral Ridge for 17 years. I have served on the board for Coral Ridge five separate years under leadership of President Chris Williams. I attended all meetings with nearly perfect attendance.  I assisted with getting new members and all activities sponsored by the association. I have worked on countless projects with Association.  I was instrumental in painting and repairing monuments at the entrances to our neighborhood.  I helped the board in many ways throughout the years, making our neighborhood safer and prosperous. My votes counted when tough decisions were needed. I feel those who have seen me in action, will once again vote for me. I am here and willing to take on all responsibilities to KEEP our neighborhood safe, clean, and Prosperous.

Arlene Brochu

Board Member

My name is Arlene Brochu and I’m submitting this background information for consideration to the Coral Ridge Association Board of Governors.  I’m a native Floridian from Miami and relocated to Coral Ridge over 30 years ago. My family owned and operated Dry Marinas in Port Everglades for over 40 years.  This also exposed me to valuable insight into how government and politics operate in this city.  I have seen many changes in Fort Lauderdale over several decades and anticipate many more developments in the future that are not necessarily beneficial to our community.  Because of my knowledge and experience over many years I believe that I could be an asset to and assist the board on many issues.

Doug Coolman

Board Member

Douglas Coolman, FASLA, RLA was a principal at EDSA, an international Land Planning and Landscape Architectural design firm in Fort Lauderdale for over 42 years.  I continue to practice as an independent registered landscape architect, and volunteer in other community service areas, related to my background.  I have served on the Board in the past and would like to return to the Board and assist with the completion of the Bayview Drive Complete Streets project, especially since my family and I have resided on Bayview Drive since 1972.

Tony Docal

Board Member

Tony Docal has been a resident of Coral Ridge since 2001, where he raised his three children who attended Bayview Elementary, St. Marks, and Pine Crest Schools. Throughout the past two decades of growth and change in South Florida, he has remained committed to Fort Lauderdale, recognizing it as an exceptional place to live, work, and raise a family. With the region experiencing rapid development, he believes it is crucial to consider the long-term impacts on infrastructure, schools, traffic, and the city’s beaches and waterways.

Professionally, Tony spent his entire career in the global financial markets, primarily as an equity analyst and portfolio manager. For 23 years, he worked in Fort Lauderdale at Templeton Investment Counsel, part of Franklin Templeton Investments, where he managed global institutional equity portfolios for pension funds and served as part of the senior management team. His work required extensive research, analysis of economic and political trends, and strategic decision-making—skills he now applies to his community involvement.

Since retiring, Tony has focused on personal investing, mentoring, and volunteering with local organizations that provide aid to the homeless. He believes his professional background, multicultural perspective, and analytical approach make him well-suited to serve on the Coral Ridge Association Board. Over the past year as a board member, he has actively contributed to committees such as Security Patrol, Beautification & Parks, and Code Enforcement, and has participated in community events like the annual Easter Egg hunt.

Jay Granieri

Board Member

My family and I have lived in the Coral Ridge neighborhood for the past five years, raising our children through the Bayview Elementary system and now splitting time between Bethany Middle School and Cardinal Gibbons High School.

For over 12 years, I have served our community as a Realtor and real estate team leader. I’m currently on the Board of Governors for the Miami Association of Realtors. Combining my professional experience with a passion for service and leadership. I’ve been proud to serve as both President and Vice President of BNI Premier, Broward’s flagship business networking chapter. For more than 13 years, I’ve volunteered as a youth coach at Holiday Park for both boys and girls. I am also the Chief of our Indian Guide Tribe and a past Chief of my Daughters’ Indian Princess organization. I am definitely not a sideline parent. When you can’t find me on the field coaching, you’ll find me on the pickleball courts at George English.

Outside of my work life and schedule, I enjoy creating opportunities that bring people together and foster community spirit. For example, a few years ago, I organically created a local Coral Ridge Holiday Golf Cart Parade, which was originally designed during COVID to connect neighbors and the community during a time of distance. What started as a 1-2 golf cart idea last year grew to over 30 golf carts with police escort, all made possible through collaborative resources with neighbors and friends.

Looking ahead, if I am to be included on the Board, I am committed to protecting the safety and security of our neighborhood. I also want to explore ways to enhance walkability, such as improving lighting, adding more reflective surfaces for biking/ jogging, and overall beautification efforts. My goal is to bring energy, creativity, and collaboration to ensure Coral Ridge remains one of the most vibrant and welcoming neighborhoods in Fort Lauderdale.

My husband is a physician, and we have been married for over 35 years making Coral Ridge our home.  We have a dog named Hinkley and love to sail, ski and travel.

Coral Ridge is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Fort Lauderdale.  The location is amazing with its proximity to the beach, 3 beautiful parks, shopping and restaurants.  It is also one of the prettiest neighborhoods with its mature trees and sidewalks, great for kids and dogs.  I would love to participate in promoting the current growth in the neighborhood while keeping its beauty and charm.  Future redevelopment of the surrounding areas will provide benefits and challenges.  Advocating for the Ridge will be important for the CRA.

I am currently serving on the association board and seeking reelection.  This has been my first year serving.  I live in Coral Ridge with my wife Jessica, and our two children.  Our children attend Bayview Elementary School and Sunrise Middle School.

My duties have been primarily focused on the launch and operation of the Security Patrol.  We’ve worked diligently to get Coral Ridge the same and better, security coverage than our neighboring associations.  The main attraction of the program is the vacation check service.  This is something I work on daily with our patrol officers and committee.  Weve had great success in our first year, but there is always room for improvement.  I can help enhance this program for the benefit and safety of our neighborhood.   The security patrol was the main drive behind me joining the board last year.  I look forward to continuing my work on the committee and serving our community.

He has been on the Coral Ridge Association’s board 5 different 3 year terms and has supported our association since he became a resident some 30 years ago.  “I believe we, as residents and property owners, must have the final word, not city staff, when it comes to decisions that involve our neighborhood.”  He is currently on the committee involved with traffic problems on Bayview and 26th St.
