City of Fort Lauderdale Tropical Storm Isaac Update at 5:30 pm Saturday, August 25

The City of Fort Lauderdale announces the following Tropical Storm Isaac updates:

Broward County Public Schools

Broward County Public Schools will be closed on Monday, August 27.

Bulk Trash Pick Up

The City of Fort Lauderdale is suspending BULK TRASH PICK UP on Monday, August 27. Bulk trash pick up will take place on Wednesday, August 29 for those residents whose bulk trash is normally picked up on Monday.

Parks and Recreation

All City of Fort Lauderdale Parks and Recreation programs and events have been cancelled for Sunday, August 26 and Monday, August 27. Normal activities are expected to resume on Tuesday, August 28.

Marinas

Anyone with a boat docked at a City of Fort Lauderdale Municipal Marina is reminded to secure their vessel if they have not done so already.

Beach Access

Due to expected tropical storm force winds, swimming at the City of Fort Lauderdale beaches will be prohibited beginning Sunday, August 26 at 11:00 am. Ocean Rescue Lifeguards will clear the beach prior to 11:00 am. Swimming will be prohibited and the beach will be unguarded until winds subside.

Mobile Homes

Broward County recommends the evacuation of mobile homes.

Shelters

Broward County has opened a voluntary evacuation shelter at Arthur Ashe Middle School, located at 1701 NW 23 Avenue. This shelter is being made available for residents living in low-lying areas that are prone to flooding who would like to voluntarily evacuate.

Broward County encourages unsheltered homeless persons to seek shelter. Buses have been picking up homeless persons at designated locations and will continue to do so throughout the day today until sundown. Pick ups will resume again Sunday morning.
