City of Fort Lauderdale Tropical Storm Isaac Advisory – August 26 – 1:00 pm

The City of Fort Lauderdale announces the following Tropical Storm Isaac updates:

Watches and Warnings
Broward County remains under a Tropical Storm Warning.
Broward County is under a Tornado Watch until 5:00 pm today (Sunday, August 26).
South Florida is under a Flood Watch.

Storm Conditions
The City of Fort Lauderdale continues to monitor the progress of Tropical Strom Isaac. According to the National Weather Service, Tropical Storm Isaac is located about 80 miles southeast of Key West, Florida. The storm is moving west northwest at 18 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. Fort Lauderdale is expected to experience between 4 to 8 inches of rain and sustained winds of 35-45 miles per hour with gusts up to 60 miles per hour on Sunday and continuing into Monday. There is also the potential for tornados, and moderate coastal and inland flooding.

City of Fort   Lauderdale Municipal Government
Fort Lauderdale City Hall will be OPEN for normal business on Monday, August 27.

City of Fort   Lauderdale Parks and Recreation
All City of Fort Lauderdale Parks and Recreation programs and events have been cancelled for Sunday, August 26 and Monday, August 27. Normal activities will resume on Tuesday, August 28.

Sun Trolley -- Fort Lauderdale Transportation Management Association (TMA)
The Sun Trolley will not operate on Sunday, August 26. Sun Trolley will resume service on Monday, August 27.

Bridges
The U.S. Coast Guard has locked down all bridges in Broward County. Bridges will remain in the down position until 7:00 am Monday morning, August 27, at which time the Coast Guard will re-evaluate weather conditions.

Roadways / Traffic Advisory
As weather conditions continue to deteriorate and wind speeds increase, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department advises all City residents and visitors to use extreme caution when driving. The police discourage residents from driving unless it is absolutely necessary. Drivers are reminded to use caution and treat all intersections with inoperable traffic lights as four-way stops.

City of Fort   Lauderdale Bulk Trash Pick Up
The City of Fort Lauderdale is suspending BULK TRASH PICK UP on Monday, August 27. Bulk trash pick up will take place on Wednesday, August 29 for those residents whose bulk trash is normally picked up on Monday.

Fort   Lauderdale Beach
Due to expected tropical storm force winds, swimming at City of Fort   Lauderdale beaches is prohibited as of 11:00 am Sunday, August 26. Swimming will be prohibited and the beach will be unguarded until winds subside.

Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport
Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, located at 6000 NW 21 Avenue, will close if sustained winds reach 50 mph.

Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport
Air travelers should check with their individual airline carrier for the latest updates on flight schedules.

City of Fort Lauderdale employees should monitor the Employee Information Line at (954) 828-5900 for return to work information and updates about City operations.

City of Fort Lauderdale 24-Hour Customer Service Center
City of Fort Lauderdale residents may call 954-828-8000 24-hours a day, 7-days a week with questions related to water, utilities, sanitation or other City services.

Broward County Government
Broward County government agencies, including parks and libraries, will be OPEN for normal business on Monday, August 27.

Broward County Public Schools
Broward County Public Schools will be closed on Monday, August 27.

Broward County Shelters
The Broward County American Red Cross has opened two general population shelters. There is not an evacuation order; however, shelters are being opened for residents of low-lying areas and areas prone to flooding, mobiles home residents and those who feel their structure is unsafe.

Broward County Transit
Broward County Transit and Broward County Paratransit will not operate on Sunday, August 26. Services will resume regular service on Monday, August 27.

Port Everglades
Port Everglades closed at 11 p.m. Saturday, August 25, landside and waterside, and will remain closed until further notice. Cruise passengers should contact their cruise lines for updates.

Circuit Court
The 17th Circuit Court will be closed on Monday, August 27. There will be no jury duty. Jurors should call 954-831-7051 for instructions.

Clerk of the Court
The Clerk of the Court and the Court Administrator's Office will be closed on Monday, August 27.

Broward County Property Appraiser
The Broward County Property Appraiser's Office will be closed on Monday, August 27.

Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office
All office locations for the Broward County Supervisor of Elections will be closed Monday, August 27. Election worker training scheduled for Monday, August 27 is canceled. Residents scheduled for Monday's election worker training will be contacted by the Supervisor of Elections for rescheduling.

Report Price Gouging
Residents who may be experiencing price gouging can call the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Price Gouging Hotline at 1-800-435-7352 or the Florida Attorney General at 1-866-966-7226.

Broward County Hurricane Hotline
Citizens with storm related questions can call the Broward County Emergency Hotline at 311 in Broward or 954-831-4000 for additional information on Tropical Storm Isaac and preparedness information.

Generator Safety
Portable generators can be hazardous if used improperly. The two biggest risks are: carbon monoxide poisoning from the toxic engine exhaust and electrocution from connecting the generator to the home electrical wiring system. To avoid carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning:

· Never use a generator indoors or in attached garages.
· Only operate the generator outdoors in a well-ventilated, dry area, away from air intakes to the home, and protected from direct exposure to rain and snow, preferably under a canopy, open shed, or carport.
